East Islip Public Library
East Islip, NY Project Size: $4,600,000.
This project involved the complete interior gut rehabilitation of the existing 14,000 sq. ft. library and the construction of a 21,700 sq. ft. two-story addition. The existing building foundation required under- pinning, along with extensive dewatering due to the high water table. The exterior building elements consist of a brick and EIFS veneer, a two-story high architectural cast stone archway entrance with a glazed curtain wall. The existing parapet is accented by standing seam soffits.
The EPDM roofs support a 20 KW photovoltaic solar panel system offering solar energy cost savings and at the same time acts as a screen wall for the roofs HVAC system. This is a state of the art library with all the modern conveniences. The building houses meeting rooms, study rooms, access to 20 + computers, a reading room with a fireplace, children's section and an ADA elevator access to all 3 levels.
