This intense modification project of the bridge's main control tower included waterproofing and window replacement. The tower, which is situated at the mid point of the bridge 300 feet above Rockaway Sound, raises and lowers the drawbridge and had to remain fully operational during the project. The work was performed at night and a difficult project was made more challenging by the high winds from nearby Breezy Point.
